General Description:
NovaScore is a "category score" software package based on the concept developed by the National Weather Service. It evaluates the flood threat potential of multiple test points in an ALERT system and assigns a numeric value, or score, to represent the potential threat. This score can range from 1, meaning no significant hydrologic activity, to 5, meaning a flood threat is imminent. Category scores are computed for individual hydrologic catchment basins and then combined into a whole system score. The system score is displayed in large block characters on the monitor screen for easy viewing by operators.
To attract attention, an audible alarm and flashing score occur when the system score changes. An operator can acknowledge an alarm with one keystroke, and then display an action plan showing who to call for the particular system score level. The NovaScore software can also be linked to other NovaStar optional alarm software to notify personnel out of the office using pagers, prerecorded telephone messages, or voice synthesized messages with touch tone keypad interactive software.
The NovaScore display screen is a NovaStar graphics panel. These graphics panels are programmable to display other information besides the system score. Individual basin scores can be displayed on the screen along with current sensor readings or rainfall rates. The system score and other information can be displayed on a black screen or overlaid on a digitized map. NovaStar graphics panels also allow operators to select command and layer points. Command points execute programs that can, for example, display the action plan for the current system score or display data readouts for selected sensors. Layer points display other graphics panels that can detail sub-basin maps or even individual sites with lots of information in text, bar charts, or trend charts. Of course, as with all NovaStar screens, the NovaScore display screen is available on modem lines using the HydroLynx Systems product Remdos. |
