General Description:
The HydroLynx Palmtop Field Computer replaces notebook and laptop computers with
a small lightweight package to use in programming 5096 transmitters. Hold this palmtop
computer in one hand and use your other hand to type commands or do equipment maintenance
or testing. The palmtop computer’s bright color display is easy to read even in full
sunlight. A stylus pen is used on the touch screen and virtual keyboard. A rechargeable
battery powers the unit while a coin sized battery keeps the memory intact. A serial
adaptor cable connects the palmtop computer to the 5096 transmitter or your desktop computer.
The palmtop computer has Windows Mobile software installed. Other ROM based software
is installed that includes a file manager, a word processor, a spreadsheet program,
email, internet explorer and personal management programs.
Microsoft ActiveSync Software is provided for installation on your desktop computer.
This software allows communication with the palmtop computer through the desktop
computer USB or serial port using the palmtop computer Synch cable. Using this software
you drag and drop files to transfer them between the two computers.
HydroLynx’s 5073PT Palmtop 5096 Programming Software is installed in RAM to let the
palmtop computer communicate with the 5096 transmitter through the palmtop COM1 serial
port. A 5071PT Palmtop to 5096 Programming Cable is required to connect the palmtop
Sync cable to the 5096 transmitter. This cable provides the correct connectors and
necessary jumpers to keep the 5096 transmitter awake while the cable is connected.
The 5073PT software acts as a terminal program to let you type commands to program
the 5096 transmitter. Command responses from the 5096 transmitter are displayed on
the palmtop screen.
The 5073PT software has a text file logging feature. This feature lets you log your
programming session, the transmitter parameter set, or logged data reports to text
files on the palmtop. These text files can later be uploaded to your desktop computer.
The 5073PT software uses command scripting to simplify the programming of 5096 transmitters.
Script files are pre-defined 5096 command sets that are stored on the palmtop computer
and selected through a file open dialogue box for transfer to the 5096 transmitter.
Examples of 5096 programming scripts are provided and new script files can be created
on the palmtop computer or on your desktop computer and transferred to the palmtop
using Windows ActiveSync.
The price and convenience of palmtop computers and the logging and scripting features
of the communication software makes this a good choice for equipment used by field
technicians in maintaining and programming 5096 transmitters. |
