General Description

The Model 5060A and 5060B Wattmeter Test Kits accurately measure forward and reflected power in coaxial transmission lines. These portable insertion type instruments are essential test equipment when installing, testing, and maintaining data telemetry sites.

The Model 5060A Wattmeter Test Kit includes a wattmeter, one broadband lock-in-place element, and the Model 5060S Adaptor Set. The wattmeter provides five power ranges from 5 to 500 watts, covering a frequency range of 25 to 1000 MHz. This provides the user with exceptional versatility in a rugged, portable unit. The Adaptor Set provides a variety of cable connectors, a dummy load, and a short length of cable to meet the range of applications expected in typical ALERT systems.

The Model 5060B's frequency range and power level is determined by a Plug-in Element. Included in the Model 5060B is the wattmeter, a 25 watt VHF or UHF Plug-in Element, and the Model 5060S Adaptor set.

Why RF Power Measurement Matters

Proper RF power measurement is a critical step in commissioning and maintaining any ALERT or ALERT2 flood warning network. Excessive reflected power — caused by damaged cables, corroded connectors, or improperly matched antennas — reduces the effective transmission range of a station and can lead to data loss during storm events when reliable communication is most important. Regular testing with a wattmeter during scheduled maintenance visits helps identify antenna system problems before they result in missed transmissions.

Field Use

Both the 5060A and 5060B are designed for field use by technicians servicing remote telemetry stations. The rugged, portable construction withstands transport to remote sites, and the insertion-type design allows quick inline measurement without disassembling the antenna system. The included Adaptor Set (Model 5060S) provides BNC, N-type, and other connectors commonly used in ALERT telemetry installations.
